#SomethingILove about the town I live in here in #Moldova is the variety of flowers I encounter every time I go out. My colleagues at school cultivate a variety of plants in their classrooms and in the halls. So many people we know invest great labor in not only the food-producing plants & trees in their garden but also the ones that only create beauty. No matter where I’ve walked this spring, I’ve been greeted all along the way with the sights and smells of so many vibrant flowers. In these moments, I always think of my parents and how I’d love to share these plants and how many I recognize from their garden. So many bring comfort in their familiarity, making this new #home feel more like my previous one. #BloggingAbroad @bloggingabroad #BAPhotoChallenge

My youngest brother loves to stop by after school to join me in whatever I’m doing. We play cards, do Hip Hop Abs, cook, clean, and more. Whenever we’re missing a certain little Middle Atlas village, we look towards the shelf at these sentimental clay pots–gifts from two girls we’re lucky enough to call khwatatna (our sisters). A big benefit of living in Ecuador is the easy access to wholesome, affordable foods. A typical #breakfast for me consists of fresh fruit (today’s selection is papaya and banana), yogurt, chia seeds, and granola with nuts and dried fruits. These days I don’t just keep a #ToDoList, I keep a #ThingsIveDone one as well. I received a beautiful planner from Class 8-A for Women’s Day and made it even prettier with some #PeaceCorpsSwag. Several times a week, I jot down highlights of what I’d done in the preceding days. Having this information all in one spot helps me complete reports on my volunteer service more effectively and to be able to step back and understand how I spend my time. Plus, those maps are handy! This is my #ToDoList for the weekend! As a Peace Corps Volunteer I try to keep a balance between work, fun and sharing time/culture with my host family and community. For work I am trying to get an English club started as well as organize a spelling bee! I also have to finish filling out some forms for the #peacecorps For fun I would like to start taking surfing classes (because I am lucky enough to live so close to the beach) as well as explore a bit more of the beautiful country of #Ecuador. And finally, for cultural exchange this week I am planning on making pancakes for my host family so they can try the delicious Vermont Maple Syrup I brought down with me. I am also planning to go to Baileterapia at least 3x a week to spend some time and exercise with some other ladies in my community. So much to do but I can’t complain! #baphotochallenge @bloggingabroad

It’s the little things and simple moments that make my house in costal Colombia a home. Like being given 5 slices of birthday cake in 2 days. Like sitting on the patio listening to my host dad and sister sing along to vallenato while I cross-stitch and my host mom grades papers. Like getting a knock on the door to be told about the tragedy that had happened in Orlando. #ThisIsMyLife, and I’m fortunate to have such a safe #home.
