Cup of Java

Cup of Java The island in Indonesia I am currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer on is Java or Jawa in Indonesian. It is the most densely populated island in the world. Javanese culture largely revolves around hospitality and family. These intersect with coffee. Family and friends will often show up unannounced at each others' homes to visit, share news, exchange stories, and just spend time together. Snacks and coffee are always offered to the guest. While I might not be able to offer you a cup of coffee, I hope that through this blog I may share some of my experiences, stories, and work as a Peace Corps Volunteer with you as I continue to drink them in. Uganda Wonder

Uganda Wonder Walk with me, Alexa, a goofy, joyous, artsy Community Health Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Uganda. I am a hop, skip, and jump away from Tanzania and SW Uganda, yet living in a small rural village doing community health work such as HIV education and prevention, and WASH projects. I am dedicated to the 3rd Goal of Peace Corps: "To promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served." Here, I will try to do just that, by sharing the stories of Ugandans I know, our cultural exchanges, the health projects I am a part of, and the highs and lows of service. Weebale nnyo kusoma! The Amharican Life

The Amharican Life A nomad, aspiring writer/storyteller, photographer, peacemaker, and not by choice, a social activist. I say not by choice because I'd rather be hiking, swimming, reading a book, learning to cook, or sleeping, but when there is a lack of justice and peace in the world, I believe we have to make personal sacrifices and work towards a kinder, more just world, full force. I am currently in Peace Corps journey in Ethiopia where I work as a community health volunteer. I'll share my stories, my struggles, and my growth on this blog. Alhamdulillah.
