Cup of Java
The island in Indonesia I am currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer on is Java or Jawa in Indonesian. It is the most densely populated island in the world. Javanese culture largely revolves around hospitality and family. These intersect with coffee. Family and friends will often show up unannounced at each others’ homes to visit, share news, exchange stories, and just spend time together. Snacks and coffee are always offered to the guest.
While I might not be able to offer you a cup of coffee, I hope that through this blog I may share some of my experiences, stories, and work as a Peace Corps Volunteer with you as I continue to drink them in.
