Lots of pros and cons
January 08, 2022by: Finn Rudy - United StatesProgram: Study at the Universidad Veritas in Costa RicaIt was definitely a very fun experience but I think San Jose is an absolutely horrible city. My classes were very interesting and didn't involve much homework allowing me to travel to different parts of the contrary every weekend which was very nice. Culturally I think Costa Rica is very similar to the US in lots of ways so if you want a more immersive experience then this might not be the place for you. However, if this is one of your first times outside of your home country then this might be a good first trip since it is not very dramatic. The campus and school itself is very safe and nice for the most part but the second you leave it is very dangerous and can be quite intimidating if you have a late class and have to walk home to your homestay. There is not a whole lot to do in San Jose other than plan where you want to go outside of the city. The people I was with really made the experience incredible and irrelevant of where you go if you get to know the people you are going with and are able to explore the country with them you are definitely going to have a much better time.
Experience at Veritas
January 05, 2022by: Gisela Sarabia Sandoval - United StatesProgram: Study at the Universidad Veritas in Costa RicaI was hoping to meet Costa Rican students. I was upset because I only met and interacted with American and German students. I was expecting to meet Costa Rican students to have a fuller study abroad experience.
Loved my experience
December 17, 2021by: Ava Lypps - United StatesProgram: Study at the Universidad Veritas in Costa RicaI loved being in Costa Rica and my home stay was amazing. I do wish that there was more facilitated interactions between the local students and the study abroad students and possibly some more cultural activities put on by the school. I enjoyed the field trips but do recommend students don't take more than two classes with field trips as it did take up a lot of my free time. Overall this was a good experience.
