Our photo challenge is an opportunity to promote cross-cultural understanding through social media.

Why:

The purpose of our Photo Challenge is to help you create a consistent series of awesome culture-related photos on social media.

What You’ll Get:

Themed prompts to help you publish meaningful photos every month
Exposure on BloggingAbroad.org and our social media accounts
Great content ideas you can turn into blog posts
Camaraderie among a community of bloggers around the world who are promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding

How It Works:

Simply subscribe to our monthly Photo Challenge e-mails to find out the prompts.
Start or stop at any time. Take the challenge for one month, or more. We’ve got photo prompts to keep you going all year!
You’ll get ~~a list of 10 prompts~~ (update:) one monthly prompt on the first of the month, plus a follow-up reminder e-mail a few weeks later.
Publish your photos on social media with the corresponding tags, and we’ll share the best ones on our social media accounts.
Optional: If you have a blog, we invite you to combine your photos into a cohesive blog post by the end of each month. We’ll share these on our site.

When does the Photo Challenge start?

You can join in whenever you want! Just sign up and you’ll receive the next prompts on the first of the upcoming month.

Can I re-use an older photo or do I have to take a new one?

We don’t mind if your photos aren’t all brand new. You will need to republish it on social media, even if you’ve already done so in the past – that way we’ll be more likely to find it and re-share.

How long do I have to publish my photos?

The idea is to publish any related photos within the month that you receive the prompt.

If you’re up for it, try publishing one per day that fits with the theme. Then create a compilation blog post with all those photos in the second half of the month.

Is the Photo Challenge a competition? Will I win something?

Photo Challenges are more about challenging yourself. There is no competition involved, although we do share the best photos on our social media and website. Although we don’t have official prizes, hopefully you’ll still get something out of it: the feeling of accomplishment, a more engaging social media account, and the chance to share alongside others around the world and exchange stories- among other things!

What social media accounts can I use for this Challenge?

We will primarily be monitoring Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can tag us @bloggingabroad on any of these platforms and we’ll be notified of your post.

You are welcome to publish on other channels, just know that we might not see it. And if we don’t see, we won’t share it.

You may also wish to solely publish the photos on your blog, whether you “micro blog” on a site like Tumblr or you create a single compilation of photos at the end of the month.
