Volunteering as a 21 year old photographer from Belgium, was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to grow as a photographer while enjoying the beauty and spirit of the Amazon rainforest and the town Alter do Chao.

I didn’t like the Birdinventory at the reserve and at son Risal. Because there weren’t enough birds to see and the hole day felt kinda unsuccessful. But apart of this every invetory was diversified and interesting. I loved especially the Arthropods because we always found some new insects. I enjoyed the group work of two for some invetories ( mushrooms, frogs and trees) because it helped to get to know the other volunteers better.

I have volunteered abroad many times in Latin America. This time, I wanted to go to Brazil and stay! I have been looking for a job in conservation/environment NGO's for many years now, and over the last year, I saved up enough money in London to support me during my transition to live in Brazil while I found a job I was passionate about. I decided to volunteer again, as it has always been a great way to make contacts (friends really, but, anyways...) who know about other exciting opportunities. What inspired me was the drive to work surrounded by nature, for an NGO whose mission I truly support in Brazil.

Being the daughter of an American diplomat and a dual French/Swiss citizen I travelled a lot growing up. As cliché as it may sound traveling has proven itself to be more than just a hobby for me but rather a lifestyle. I really do have a hard time staying in one place for too long. Every couple years I feel the tingling desire to embark on a new adventure. I love discovering all the different facets of a country's culture: the food, the art, the traditions, the history, the current geopolitical situation and everything that goes along with it. I truly believe that exploring the world and coming to an understanding and respect of different cultures is one of the greatest forms of education an individual can be lucky enough to experience.
