What’s the difference between First Year Abroad and Gap Year Abroad?

With CIEE First Year Abroad, you’ll complete your first semester or academic year of college abroad while enrolled with CIEE’s school of record and academic home, Dean College. With a CIEE Gap Year Abroad program, you’ll defer college and explore the world before diving into university life. On this program, you will take language or writing classes and live with a host family or in a residence hall, hotel, or hostel.

The excitement that came with my Spanish improvement was most memorable for me.

When deciding to take a gap year I felt really stressed about how I would choose to spend my time and finding the right experience for me. I’m so happy I found the ciee gap year program, I felt that it was a great opportunity to learn so many new things and have such a unique experience. My most memorable experience was getting to meet so many new people who J probably never would’ve had I not been in this program and studying abroad here in Seville. And aside from the traveling I got to do, the excitement that came with my Spanish improvement was most memorable for me. Being able to notice my own progress and feel really comfortable in a completely new language was really rewarding.

This was an absolutely amazing program and I had so much fun! The most memorable experience for me was going to Hiroshima and Miyajima— 100% would recommend that this become a part of the recurring itinerary for the Kyoto trip students

I think the experience I’ve had here was extremely unique, our program was so small and I was so lucky that we all got along and became so close knit. I also think studying abroad my first semester of college has given me so many important real world skills and made me a more independent person.
